“This [website] is for military families,” said Kristin Cook, Digital Producer at Sesame Street. “We wanted to create something really special for you!”
And that they did, folks. Sesame Street for Military Families is seriously cool, and you need to check it out. So, we coordinated an exclusive behind-the-scenes look just for you. If you missed us LIVE, don’t fret. We saved it here for you to watch whenever, wherever you want.
In the video, Cook and Senior Project Manager, Sabrina Huda, walk us through all the awesome features available for free (yes, FREE!), thanks to the Defense Health Agency.
When you go online, you’ll see that there are over 300 different interactive activities to do with your kids. Plus, they have multiple apps and a support group on Facebook. Sesame Street for Military Families provides programs and services that range from light-hearted birthday activities to serious topics like deployments, relocations, injuries, and grief.
“We know that when a parent serves in the military, the entire family is serving,” said Huda. “So, our Muppets are used to talk about tough things from the perspective of a child.”
One topic, they learned, that’s hard for milkids to grasp is moving. They know this because they asked, and real-life milfams told them EV.ERY.THING.
To lessen the burden, they created The Big Moving Adventure just for us. It’s an app that breaks down the military moving process in an easy to understand way and engages kids, so they feel like they’re part of the process too. There’s also a section for parents full of scripts that tell you what to say and when.
The Big Moving Adventure is just one of 300 resources available to you. Before you go digging around on your own, watch the video below to get pro tips and advice on where to find the gems. Watch it now:
